I haven’t done Works for Me Wednesday on this blog before, but this week is a themed week.  We’re to post  toy ideas that our kids just love.  What does that have to do with being GFCF?  Well, lots of arts and crafts materials actually contain wheat, gluten, milk etc either in the product or the glue.

Therefore, my choice for a great toy is a little different because my goals in choosing toys might be a little different.  Nathan’s autism means that lots of toys that are “age-appropriate” are not developmentally appropriate yet.

One of the all time best toys we have is floor puzzles from Melissa & Doug.  They make tons of different styles and these babies are sturdy.  We haven’t managed to snap, bend or break one piece yet.  The favorite at our house is the “Going Places” puzzle.

Puzzles help with math skills and fine motor skills, something Nathan needs work in.  I have always been very impressed with Melissa & Doug puzzles, from the wooden baby puzzles right up to the complicated ones.  They are reasonably priced too.  The Going Places puzzle is 4 puzzles in one box for 14.95

You can buy Melissa & Doug products at Mastermind Toys.  I love this retailer too. Free shipping in Canada for orders of $100 & $7.50 to ship to the US.  I have used Mastermind Toys many times.  Everything comes on time, as I ordered and can even be giftwrapped (for FREE).  Talk about convenience!
