For all those “naysayers” who give us a hard time about some of the feeding issues we have with our kids – I give you this British case

The child in question had dental surgery & then refused to open her mouth & eventually died of dehydration & starvation. She was 8 years old.

Obviously there were a lot of failures here. But, I don’t know how many times I’ve heard – “Don’t worry, he’ll eat when he’s hungry.”

It isn’t always true. In fact, for kids with texture, sensitivity (which she probably had both, with 8 teeth being removed) and other issues, food refusal has nothing to do with hunger.

So, persevere Moms & Dads. Trust your gut instincts. And never, ever let your child go for days without eating or drinking. Far better to wean them slowly off dairy, gluten or soy than to starve them to death.

I am sickened and saddened at this horrible death but hope that it brings an end to the “kids will eat when they are hungry” nonsense.
